1066 HASTINGS STEP RACE SUNDAY 11th October 2009.

Less than a month to go for the first Step Race of this kind in Hastings and
the South East (Maybe even the UK?). What is a Step Race? It derives from an American trend for 'Tower Running', which is where participants run up tower blocks. Already some Tower Races have occurred in UK, but this will be the first official Step Race. It takes place during Hastings Week -10th -18 October. The anniversary of the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The East Hill Railway lift, over 100 years old, is currently being re-furbished, so the only way up to the top of the East Hill, and the fantastic views and Country Park, is up the 247 steps from winkle Island (Old Town Hastings). This makes an ideal venue for this new event. After reaching the top of the steps, the entrants carry along the top of East Hill, along High Wickham, Tackleway, Crown Lane and All Saints Street. The total distance is 1.066 miles. Participants will be set of in 30 second intervals. To enter go to www.hastingsrunners.org.uk or e.mail bds@michaelhall.co.uk entry forms are also available at Sports Places in the Hastings area. This is an exciting opportunity to be among the first people to take part in this new and different event, and you can go at what ever pace you wish, either walking or jogging or running. There will be a memento to all finishers. The event is organised by Hastings Runners as part of Hastings Week, and will be well organised and marshalled, plus first aid cover. There will be many special activities and things to do throughout Hastings Week, including the fantastic procession, bonfire and firework display on Saturday 17th. So come to Hastings to take part or view this unique first Step Race on SUNDAY 11TH OCTOBER starting at 11a.m.
