Hastings Half Marathon Awards Evening Sunday 29th April 2012

At a packed AZUR at The Marina on Sunday evening, a record audience of over 300 celebrated this year's Hastings Half Marathon.

The evening started with a tribute minute's applause in recognition of the remarkable Claire Squires who died in last weeks London Marathon, coupled with the loss of three half marathon stalwarts Reg Wild, Colin Curcher and Bill Young.

World Skeleton athlete Lizzy Yarnold looked stunning as she did a great job in presenting the prizes and awards to young and old a like.

There was even a Guest Appearance of the Pantomime Horse during the Evening. This was of course Matt and Daniel, still waiting to hear if they have broken the record.

New Reg Wild Memorial Shields were presented to the first Hastings A.C. Boy and Girl in the Saga Mini Run, by Jean Wild.

The Colin Curcher Memorial Shield was presented by daughters Helen and Nicci to the Top Family Team.

The Bill Young Memorial Shield was presented to Geoff Gray from Seaford
Striders, by Glynis Young.

The Mayor of Rye, Cllr. John Breeds, presented the Rye Awards, and also received the Cinque Ports Shield on behalf of The Rye Team.

It was good to see the Bumble Bee (Kieran Cahill) still in costume to collect his Fancy Dress Award.

The team from Barcelona Boomerang, raising money for Cystic Fibrosis had a good night, winning the Conquest Trophy, but then also winning the Dyer Charity Shield for the group raising to most money for a Charity, with a staggering amount of £6500.

The Oliver Curd Trust won the Charity Team Award, and received a cheque for £500, 2nd were team Sparkle receiving £300, and St. Michaels Hospice £200 for 3rd.

But the biggest winner on the night was all the charities and needy causes that will benefit from the whopping £112,000 plus raised by the event so far more to come!

The Organisers, Hastings Lions Club, would like to thank everyone who supported the event. Date for next year's event is Sunday 24th March
2013, and entries are open at www.hastings-half.co.uk
