2011 Race Summary

The 27th Hastings Half Marathon. Sunday 20th March 2011.

On a wonderful sunny and windless Day at Hastings, the return of The Kenyan's
was too much for the best of the UK Athletes.

Gordon Mugi(Kenya) was always in charge at the front of the Men's Race, but
only won by 18 seconds from Ethiopian challenger Seyoum Nigussie in a time
of 68 minutes. Third place was hotly contested by Orlando Edwards and Mike
Coleman, with Edwards prevailing by four seconds over his rival. Tom Collins
was 5th and Martin Cox 6th.

The Ladies race was a real battle between Kenyan Rebby Koech, and Lucy
McAllister(Brstol and West) with Koech pulling away to win by 37 seconds in
a time of 1:15:13

Kiditz Yichenku(Ethiopia) was third, with Amy Chalk(Bristol & West) 4th.

The remarkable Clare Elms(Dulwich Runners) was 5th, setting yet another
record Masters time for Hastings, and Katy Moore(Brighton & Hove) 6th.

On a day of perfect weather conditions, there were lots of PB's and Masters
records, especially the ones of Clare Elms and Sally Musson.

With massive crowds all round the route, there was also a record number of
Spectators enjoying the Event.

Thousands of pounds will be raised for many Charities and needy causes.

Prize Giving Evening will be on Sunday 1st May, at The Azur.

The 2012 Hastings Half Marathon will be on Sunday 25th March 2012.

2011 Hastings Half Marathon round up of front runners

Could be an exciting race up front for both the male and female athletes.

Local Athletes.

Last year Henry Mountcastle (4338) won the Premier Travel Hastings Local Men's award. This year Daniel Anderson (2802) will be aiming to get back his local crown.

But watch for improving James Climpson (4221), who was third last year.

Are there any surprise male local athletes who could get in the reckoning?

Holly Wheeler (4323) is aiming to defend her local title from last
year. Samantha Alvarez (1495) who now lives locally, just may make Holly work for it.

Sally Lovell (1975) will try to improve on Her third place last year.

Runners to look out for on Race Day

Neil Sadler - Running 13 x Hastings Half Marathon's Sunday 20thMarch. Neil Sadler (Race No. 1313) will start his epic endurance feat at 1:30pm on Friday 18th March, from the start line of the Hastings Half Marathon in Sea Road, St.Leonards. He will run consecutively the Half Marathon route 13 times, finishing with the last one with the Official Race start at 10:30am on Sunday 20th March. He is raising money for the Oliver Curd Trust. You can contact him on 07976716280 before or during the run (day and night).

Andy Chadwick from Maidstone (Race No. 862) will be running the race running backwards (Reverse Running). He is looking for company and help to see him around the route.

Ashley Scrace is cycling from Sheffield to Hastings (300 miles) to raise funds for St.Michael's Hospice, and is aiming to finish at 2:00pm on the Half Marathon Finish Line.

Terry Avery (Race No. 3204) will be pushed and pulled around in his wheelchair, by his family and friends. Terry had a Stroke last year, and will be raising funds for The Stroke Association and The Irvine Unit at Bexhill, and the ARRCC day centre at Rye, to say thank you for their treatment of him.

Shaun Creasey (Race No. 3416) Golf Professional at Cooden Beach Golf Club, will be competing in the event for the 12th time, and showing that even Golfer's must be fit!

Dave Hinton (07794721789) will be sleeping out rough this week, and then running the Half Marathon on Sunday, to raise money and awareness for The Seaview Project.

A group of 20 local fire fighters will be pushing a Bed round the Route, to raise money for the High Dependency unit at Conquest Hospital, and MacMillan Nurses. Apparently the bed has been modified with steering and brakes. They are the Red and White Watch at Hastings Fire Station. Contact Graham Greer (07817 433308)
